5 Ways to Use Ultra Violet in your Home

Pantone recently announced the 2018 color of the year – Ultra Violet. This dramatic purple may seem challenging for home décor, but we think it’s pretty awesome . In fact, we use purple a lot in our textiles and we think Ultra Violet – and similar hues – can recharge any interior!

Here are 5 ways to use Pantone’s Color of the Year Ultra Violet  – or similar shades of purple – in your decor:

1) Use Purple on All of the Walls – or an Accent Wall

Purple walls will definitely make a dramatic statement. This purple room on Tid Bits and Twine, with its glittering crystal  chandelier is stunning. If it feels like too much for you, try painting just one purple feature wall.

For a less committed transition to purple, install a temporary wallpaper. Boho Luxe Home peel and stick wallpapers are an easy method for bringing color into your home. Pictured here is Bryony Storm Dorian peel and stick wallpaper – incorporating purples, grays, and hints of gold.

Here’s a double take on that floral wallpaper pattern that would also look great on an accent wall. This one is darker, deeper and includes navy and pink with the purple.

2) Add a Pop of Ultra Violet Color With Pillows

If the look you want to live with is less dramatic, just use an Ultra Violet color for your accent pillows. As the only pop of color in a neutral space, purple can take on a timeless quality.

How gorgeous is this room from Respectfully Bonne Vie?  So elegant and lush.

Check out the fun, colorful pillows below, from luxurious velvet with pom pom tassels to patterned throw pillows, to one of a kind vintage texiles turned into accent pillows. You can shop these gorgeous pieces here.

You can also add a pop of purple to a neutral space with other accent pieces. Like the bright purple toran featured here.

We also love the way this white kitchen and great room by designer Jennifer Reid comes to life with purple. More subtle than Ultra Violet, yet still powerful – as seen on Style at Home.

 3) Art is a Great Way to Incorporate Purple

We’re great believers in buying art you LOVE – not art that matches your sofa! But if you happen to have (or find) a piece that includes some bold purples, it will enliven your room immediately!

We love the bold mix throughout this entire space. Solid walls. A patterned sofa. Plus some gorgeous art that definitely holds its own. Could you fall in love with any of the purple art pieces below, which are printed on metal? We love the juxtaposition of soft florals on shiny metal – and the playfulness of the spin-art piece.

Purple definitely creates a bold environment. The art choice below fits in perfectly. How fun and unexpected is an ostrich on your (purple) wall?

We found this bold and bright interior on artist Melissa Mercier’s blog, but it originally appeared in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles.

4) Purple Fabrics in Prints or Solids

Playful fabrics can steal the spotlight in any room – so if you’re feeling bold, why not choose a lavish purple?

You may remember this shot from our Moody Valentine post; the Bryony Storm fabric in Noir is used to cover a vintage settee in the living room. Other purple inspired pieces include a dark romantic, organic feathery art piece on metal, a luxurious velvet pillow featuring a large purple tassel, as well as an array of Boho Luxe Home pillows.

5) Use Purple Furniture

Purple furniture…do you love it as much as we do?! In our book, purple just works – especially on furniture.

Painted purple furniture doesn’t have to break the bank, either. Use a piece you have, or a flea market find, and use an easy DIY paint like Velvet Finishes to bring it to life. You can actually paint upholstery, leather, and wood with this paint as well!!!

DIY blogger Ashley Davis of Courageously Made redid the chest of drawers, above, in an afternoon. So stinkin’ cute!

The couch, below, isn’t painted – but it is outrageous and GORGEOUS! And that black ceiling! Wow. We seriously want it ALL!

Designer Holly Phillips of  The English Room created this space and posted it as a one-room challenge and we are seriously in love with it.

The boho print and pattern mix below is killer, too. This eclectic space is from Lonny magazine. Simple – and boho at the same time.
